So, this should be interesting. There’s another movie about Jesus making the rounds. But, this one is a bit different. Lead actor Ewan McGregor (Star Wars, Big Fish) is playing both Jesus and the Devil.
Last Days in the Desert is an indie film about the final days Yeshua spent in the wilderness as the Devil tested him (Matthew 4:1-11). Writer and director Rodrigo Garcia elaborates on that moment in time in this new art film, as McGregor calls it.
In January, the star and director spoke about the Sundance feature, extolling its virtues to Christianity Today. Both Garcia and McGregor aren’t particularly religious men; but according to that interview, they’ve both felt the impact of telling this narrative.
Garcia says that even though he’s written beyond the scripture, he made it a point to keep the heart of Yeshua, his humanity and divinity, present in the film. His star agrees.
“It was done with nothing but respect and passion”, McGregor says.
